The Institute of Melbourne School of Land and Environment, The University of Melbourne. Review of Approaches to Collaborative Forest Management

A University of Melbourne team recently completed a review for the Victorian Dept of Natural Resources and Environment on Evaluation of Models for Community Forest Management. This study was commissioned in line with recent policy statements that commit to "developing options for community participation in forest management".

The government has placed particular emphasis on developing options in collaboration with communities surrounding the Wombat State Forest near Daylesford. The team, comprised of Dr John Petheram (Creswick Campus), Mr Peter Stephen (Parkville Campus) and Dr Don Gilmour, ex-Director of IUCN Forest Conservation Program and ex-Manager of the Nepal-Australia (Community) Forestry Project.

The Review has been presented at public meetings at Ballarat, Daylesford and Woodend.
