Land and Food Resources

Research Funding

Research grant income in the Faculty of Land and Food Resources amounted to $7.6 m in 2003 (see Figure, below). This was less than in 2002, but continues a steady overall trend of increasing grant income since 1999.

Graph showing total research grant income over time

There are approximately 80 research-active academic staff within the Faculty which means that, in 2003, there was an average of just under $100,000 in research grant income for each research-active staff member.

This income is all from external sources, including Australian Competitive Grant schemes such as those offered by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the rural industry Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), Co-operative Research Centres (CRCs), other public sector sources such as State and Local Government programs, and various partner industries and commercial companies. Just over 50% of our total research income is from Australian Competitive Grant (ACG) schemes.

The breakdown of the Faculty’s sources of ACG funding over the period 2000 - 2003 is shown in the diagram below. The Australian Research Council Linkage grant program, the dairy industry, and the forest and forest products industry have been, and continue to be, important sources of research funding for the Faculty. The grains industry, and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, have also been significant funders of our research activities.
