CRC Wood Innovations contucts groundbreaking research into two major programs: the Microwave Modification of Wood, and High Value-added Wood Products. These programs provide a vital contribution to the development needs of Australia's timber industry and have the potential to revolutionise the wood products and furniture industries. The CRC Wood Innovations is a cooperative research centre uniting a dynamic group of researchers and industry organisations including:
Microwave Modification of WoodCurrent wood processing technologies have a number of disavantages arising from the variable nature of wood. Characteristics of wood may vary between species, between trees and within a tree. Under the influence of intensive microwave radiation it is possible to modify the structure of wood reducing variability and providing improved physical properties and techological attributes. Our research in microwave modification of wood aims to develop the application and use of microwave technology for timber processing and promote the uptake and commercialisation of microwave technology. More Information: High Value-Added Wood ProductsThe Australian furniture industry faces a challenging future with opportunities for expansion and greater competitiveness. Centre research will meet the challenge and place the Australian furniture industry at the leading edge of global innovation in the processing and manufacturing of high value wood products. The research program on High Value-Added Wood Products will develop innovative techniques and methods for the design and manufacture of high quality and high performance value-added wood products to ensure their competitiveness on international markets. |
