Seed quality and disease resistant mapping in lentil (Lens culinaris subsp. culinaris)
The project objectives are to:
1. Further develop and saturate the current lentil genome linkage map with a novel source of highly stable, codominant, unilocus and lentil-specific microsatellite molecular markers and M. truncatula CAP markers
2. Construct a DNA genotyping/fingerprint database of the 10 most commercially important Australian cultivars using lentil-specific microsatellite molecular markers
3. Identify the location of genes conditioning seed shape (width and diameter), seed splitting efficiency and resistance to seed infection by ascochyta blight
4. Identify and validate markers that are closely associated with the major loci governing the seed traits, that will be used for marker-assisted selection and backcrossing
