Parkville Campus
The University's main campus is in Parkville, an inner city area of parks, and a short walk from central Melbourne. The campus is attractively landscaped with historical buildings, leafy, brick-paved walks, quiet places for study and conversation and spaces for meeting, entertainment and recreation.
Life at the University of Melbourne is full and rewarding, thanks to the excellent facilities and friendly atmosphere of our campuses. Virtually every need and interest is catered for, while retail services, entertainment, cafes and gardens of the State capital are only minutes away from the Parkville campus.
More than 250 student clubs and societies thrive on campus, catering for interests ranging from amateur theatre, music and film to politics, literature and religion.
The campus provides all the conveniences of a small town. These include banks, cafes, a milk bar, a food cooperative, a post office, a chemist, a hair salon, a travel agent, theatres, museums, galleries, libraries, reading rooms, and various shops offering clothes, sportswear, stationery, and markets selling fruit and vegetables, clothing and general merchandise.
The University also caters for the physical health and development of students and staff. Among the sporting and recreational facilities available are a heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasiums and weight training rooms, squash, tennis and basketball courts, a cricket practice area, a synthetic running track and playing fields.
Off-campus facilities include the Boat Shed on the Yarra River and the Alpine Lodge at Mt Buller.
