Melbourne School of Land and Environment

(Formerly The Faculty of Land and Food Resources)

Dookie Campus

Dookie Campus is located between the cities of Shepparton and Benalla in central Victoria, around 200 kilometres north of Melbourne.

The Campus is in a mixed farming region with substantial dairying, fruit growing, cropping and grazing enterprises. The 2,240 hectares of farms include broadacre cropping, lamb and beef enterprises, dairying and an intensive piggery. There are also 20 hectares of orchards and vineyards.

Complementing this productive pastoral expanse is the largest natural bush reserve of any Australian university, underlying the commitment to natural resource management.

Dookie operates as well as any small town. Staff and students enjoy excellent accommodation with sporting facilities such as tennis, squash, basketball, football and swimming. Other facilities include a post office, general store, bank, laundry and a petrol station.

Transport

While there is no public transport to campus, there is a regular rail service from nearby Benalla and Shepparton.

Driving from Melbourne, travel north on the Hume Highway. Exit at the Violet Town exit and follow the signed directions to Dookie. Melway map reference - 522 A7.

A map of the campus (PDF 120KB) is available.

Accommodation

There is on-campus accommodation for 155 students, mostly in single rooms, but also in self-contained houses. There is a major catering facility and lounge bar. There are many farm and private houses for rent in the area. Dookie also has four twin motel rooms for visitors.
