Bachelor of Agriculture

Course Description

The Bachelor of Agriculture will give you a broad knowledge of fundamental science across a range of disciplines, with a high level of achievement in areas such as soils, plant and animal management and production. You will learn how to design and conduct scientific enquiries and apply your scientific knowledge to define, analyse and solve agricultural and environmental problems.

Students are required to self-direct their learning and apply problem-solving, communication and team management skills to an independent industry-focused project, demonstrating integrated research and statistical skills. All students are required to complete at least 12 weeks of compulsory vacation work which may be in a range of areas related to agriculture, including farms. This offers further understanding of issues from a practical perspective.

Students are able to specialise their study within the Bachelor of Agriculture to concentrate on their own personal interests and future career needs. Students may elect to follow disciplinary sequences in: Agricultural Economics and Business, Animal Management and Production Science, Crop and Pasture Management or Environmental Soil Management.

Career Opportunities

As a graduate, you will be fully prepared to take up a career in a multitude of areas, including research and development organisations, biotechnology, financial institutions and banks, marketing and journalism, environmental or business consulting firms, government and policy agencies, international trade, food processing companies, extension, agriculture, agronomy, as well as farm management.
