Vocational Mentoring Program
The LFR Vocational Mentoring Program is an opportunity to support students and involve members of industry in a mutually beneficial relationship. A career mentor enables students to gain practical and authentic insights into the workplace, explore career options, and develop professional networks - enhancing motivation and employment outcomes.
Students are linked with a mentor working in a related industry. Possible activities include:
- visiting their mentor's workplace or arrange work experience;
- discussing possible career directions and options;
- learning 'job-readiness' skills;
- networking and meeting prospective employers;
- assistance with projects and resources.
The time commitment is small but the rewards are huge!
One of the current students on the program says:
'Having my mentor is great. He has helped me make subject choices and is getting me in the right direction, and helping me to understand what is needed of me to get the right jobs. He is also trying to get me some work for over summer as well. He's a really great guy and is easy to get along with and already is getting me excited and motivated to begin working and learning in the industry. Can't wait!!' (2nd year LFR student, 2001)
