About Travis
Like a lot of people his age, Travis Pate did not know what to do when he finished school. However, he did know that he wanted to enter challenging career with good job prospects. His research led him to study at University of Melbourne's Faculty of Land and Food Resources.
"I was unsure of what to do after school but I did know that studies from the University of Melbourne lead to good jobs, so it seemed like a good choice."Travis, who is originally from Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula, has just finished his final subject and is waiting to formally graduate. He has already got his dairy technology career under way at Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory, where he ensures the smooth running of equipment worth $30 million.
"It's a great job, but you have to be confident in your decisions and my studies have given me the right background for that."Travis says that his degree gives him an edge.
"I definitely feel that I am ahead of the field because of my education. In fact, many of the people I work with have studied at the University."Travis says the mix of food and science goes a long way.
